Located in the serene landscapes of Jilotepec De Abasolo, Estado de México, Cobertizo Art Residency stands as a beacon of creative exploration and interconnection. Operating as a non-profit association, Cobertizo is on a mission to amplify contemporary art practices and delve into the intricacies of production processes through its transformative art residency program.

The essence of Cobertizo's ethos is encapsulated in its month-long residency program, held annually during September in which the selected artists are offered a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in their craft, nurturing their creative vision and honing their techniques, since the residency provides specialized studios that act as sanctuaries for artistic experimentation, allowing participants to explore their ideas and push the boundaries of their creativity.

The Evolution of Cobertizo.

Founded in 2019 by the brothers Manuel and Ismael Sentíes, Cobertizo features two programs primarily focused on painting: the Residency program, which has hosted multiple national artists up to now, and the International Production Program.

The Cobertizo National Residency is an exclusive initiative tailored for Latin American and foreign artists residing in Mexico. Orchestrated through a meticulous selection process involving an invited curator, this residency emboldens pictorial practices within Latin America while fostering thoughtful contemplation about them. Conversely, the International Creative Production Program strives to host and develop impactful pictorial practices on the global art stage, since it is open to international artists aged 21 to 45 working in various mediums including painting, drawing, collage, and photography, this program offers immersive engagement focused on production. With guidance from mentors and the opportunity to build professional networks within the Mexican art scene, participants are equipped to thrive.

Guidance to Artistic Growth.

A distinctive feature of Cobertizo's residency is the involvement of esteemed mentors who play a pivotal role in shaping the artistic journey of the residents. Notable figures from the art world, such as Mariel Vela, Fabiola Menchelli, and Javier Areán, step in during the second and fourth weeks of the residency to engage in critical mentorship sessions. These sessions serve as platforms for meaningful dialogues, where experienced mentors share insights, provide guidance, and foster a nurturing space for creative growth.

The culmination of this artistic incubation transpires in the form of an engaging Open Studio event. This event not only provides residents with a platform to showcase their works but also bridges the gap between creators and the community. It opens the doors for dialogues, feedback, and appreciation, underscoring the power of art in fostering connections beyond the canvas.
